REVIEW: Pro Sound Effects - Colossal

Company: Pro Sound Effects

Product: Colossal

Price: $99

Our Rating: 4.7/5

Colossal is a new sound effects library from pro sounds effects. Designed by Joseph Fraioli and Randy Torres who worked as sound editors on Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, Colossal is a collection of high-energy impacts, whooshes, and rumbles that would be right at home in the latest Hollywood blockbuster trailer.

Colossal Sound

This library is broken down into several categories of sounds including impacts, downers, risers, rumbles, braams, and whooshes. As the name suggests, all of the sounds contained in this library sound absolutely huge, and the level of polish is very high. There is also a large amount of sonic variation in this library, with a wide range of tones and timbres, and some sounds offering multiple distance perspectives and intensities.

The frequency content of theses sounds is very full, making it easy to add a cinematic and epic quality to your work that is characteristic of modern trailer sound design. Some particular favorites of ours include the "piano drop boom" and "fireball swoosh" effects.

Colossal contains over 500 original sound effects, meaning you will be spoiled for choice when searching through this library. All of the sounds are embedded with metadata to make searching for the sound you need as streamlined as possible.

Where to use It

The outstanding quality of the sound design in this library makes a Colossal very worthwhile addition to your sound effects collection. We would recommend this library to anyone working in trailer sound design, or who is working on projects with a "stylised" and "larger than life" aesthetic. Composers of production and trailer music will also find a lot of really useful content in this library.

We recently put this library to use when working on the short film Batman: Knightmare. We used impact and transition effects to enhance a scene and really emphasise the transitions. Having a bank of top-quality sounds like these really made the process very smooth and we were easily able to select the sounds we needed to create the desired effect with ease.

The Bottom Line

A very strong library that you will find yourself dipping into time and time again. With a superb range of breathtaking sounds, and a price tag of $99 Colossal is going to be very attractive to many audio professionals, especially those working in trailer sound/music.

We hope you enjoyed this review!
